An Israel-bound flydubai flight from Dubai made an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday after a co-pilot allegedly stabbed the captain in an apparent attempt to crash the plane, according to the Guardian.

Israeli passengers intervened to stop the attack, restraining the co-pilot. A reserve crew member stabilised the aircraft as it descended and landed it safely in Saudi Arabia.

The motive for the alleged stabbing remains unknown. International teams have opened investigations into the incident.

The Guardian reports that among those credited with helping to save the flight were a pilot, a plumber and a dentist, though the source material does not detail their specific actions or roles during the emergency.
