Kuwait Airways cancelled all flights to and from Riyadh on Saturday after King Khalid International Airport closed due to what the airline called a "security situation". Canadian, German and Spanish embassies issued warnings to their citizens to avoid the airport following reports of an attack.

A medical source told AFP that dozens of people were injured in the strike, with at least five people receiving intensive care treatment. A diplomatic source told AFP the attack came from the Houthis, the Iran-aligned armed group based in Yemen.

The Houthis have conducted repeated drone and missile attacks on Saudi Arabia over recent years, targeting both military and civilian infrastructure. The group has claimed responsibility for previous strikes on airports and other facilities across the country.
